Attachment B7: Position Description, A+ Program Aide

I. INTRODUCTION

The position is located in the A+ Program at __________ Elementary School.  The A+ Program provides after-school supervision to students in kindergarten through grade six in a stimulating and caring environment. After-school services will be provided after the end of the school day during the regular school year.

The A+ Program Aide assists the A+ Program Site Coordinator or Group Leader in supervising and conducting after-school activities in the A+ Program at a school site.

II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist the A+ Program Site Coordinator or Group Leader in conducting activities for small groups.
   1. Supervise students during designated activities to ensure orderly, proper, and safe behavior.
   2. Check students and assist them with personal care and cleanliness.
   3. Observe students for illness and check on injury and make referral or take other required action.
   4. Contact parents as directed by the A+ Program Site Coordinator.
   5. Maintain a safe and secure environment.
2. Assist the A+ Program Site Coordinator or Group Leader in performing administrative or clerical tasks.
   1. Assist in maintaining attendance and activity records.
   2. Assist in maintaining personal information and record files for each participating student.
   3. Assist in maintaining statistical data collection and information records.
   4. Assist in maintaining after-school program materials and supplies and take periodic inventory as required.
   5. Assist in processing requisitions for instructional materials, supplies, and equipment and check receipt of same.
   6. Set up and operate audiovisual equipment and instructional aids.
   7. Prepare instructional materials and aids.
   8. Operate standard office equipment to reproduce a variety of materials.
   9. Sort and file materials.
   10. Perform simple typing or word processing.
3. Miscellaneous
   1. Participate in orientation and other training sessions as required.
   2. Perform other related duties as required.

III. CONTROLS OVER THE POSITION

The position is under the general supervision of the A+ Program Site Coordinator or Group Leader

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

16 years of age.

V. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education: High school education.
2. Knowledge of: Grammar, spelling, and word usage; arithmetic; basic classroom and pertinent office routines.
3. Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written instructions; learn and perform a variety of classroom, office, and related clerical tasks; speak and deal effectively with students; work effectively with others; learn practical aspects of educational program goals, functions, and activities; learn use of duplicating and other office machines and audiovisual equipment; demonstrate qualities of leadership; organize groups of children; and inspire confidence and enthusiasm.
4. Health Requirements: All A+ employees must meet the following health standards (Department of Human Services §17-800-28): 
   1. Provide documentation of negative tuberculosis test and
   2. Provide physical and mental health clearance documenting the employee’s ability to perform child care activities. 
5. Physical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties or cope with the responsibilities of providing care for children: which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted; the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily; and, the ability to participate in recreational and physical fitness activities consistent with the after-school program.
6. Mental Requirements: Applicants must be mentally able to perform the duties or cope with the responsibilities of providing care for children: which typically require the ability to learn new tasks; adhere to processes and procedures; be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner, maintain focus, complete tasks independently and within a noisy, active environment, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with students, parents and visitors.
