Attachment B4: Position Description, A+ Program District Coordinator
I. INTRODUCTION
The position is located at the ____________ District Office. The A+ Program is located in elementary schools and provides after-school supervision to students in kindergarten through grade six in a stimulating and caring environment. After-school services will be provided after the end of the school day during the school year.
The A+ Program District Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of all A+ Programs in the district.
II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, coordinate, direct, supervise, evaluate, and promote the after-school program in a school district.
- Develop specific program objectives for program achievement.
- Establish and implement appropriate district administrative procedures and practices for the program.
- Establish contacts within the community and maximize and maintain community involvement and awareness in the program.
- Develop and maintain a communication system that will channel program information to prospective and participating students, school personnel, appropriate DOE offices, parents, cooperating employers, and collateral support agencies.
- Serve as liaison between the state and district, schools, parents, community, and other agencies, etc.
- Advise and assist in the establishment and enforcement of guidelines and procedures in order to facilitate the planning, development, and implementation of after-school programs.
- Direct, coordinate, and review the work of the A+ Program Site Coordinators.
- Provide leadership and technical guidance for improvement of after-school programs and operations.
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and conduct in-service training for A+ Program Coordinators, A+ Program Group Leaders, and A+ Program Aides.
- Maintain a cooperative relationship with parents, community groups, employee organizations, legislators and officials of other government and social organizations concerned with the A+ Program.
- Assist in resolving grievances and complaints of students, parents, employees and members of other groups.
- Assist in and facilitate the recruitment of staff for the A+ Program sites.
- Prepare appropriate reports.
- Participate in orientation and training sessions as required.
III. CONTROLS OVER THE POSITION
The position is under the general administrative direction of the Complex Area Superintendent. The duties and responsibilities are carried out with considerable independence and authority in administering and managing the ongoing program, within prescribed policies and objectives.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible job-related professional experience in education, of which three (3) years shall have been in school administration or 3 years in school level district level A+ programming. The Complex Area Superintendent must approve exceptions to minimum qualifications.
- Combination of education and experience.
Recruitment and preferences will target retired DOE administrators.
- Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of school administration.
- Objectives, goals, policies, regulations, and directives governing after-school program operations.
- Principles and practices of management.
- Principles and practices of public relations and budget preparation.
- Principles and practices of staff development and training.
