Attachment B13: Applicant Evaluation Worksheet Instructions
- Complete a worksheet for each applicant. It is suggested that a tentative rating be given after each interview and the final rating be given after all of the interviews have been completed, test results (if any) have been reviewed, and information obtained from records and references (if any) have been considered.
- Apply the following criteria to rate each factor. Consider not only the amount or length, but also the scope, depth, relevancy and currency of education, training, and experience of the applicant.
- NONE (0)
- Does not possess knowledge or ability or possess knowledge or ability to a negligible degree.
- MINIMUM (1)
- Minimal knowledge or ability is possessed for adequate job performance. Knowledge or ability possessed is remotely related to that required on the job. Knowledge or ability possessed is severely lacking in scope and/or depth and is applicable in meeting only the simplest and routine job requirements. Acquisition and application of the knowledge or ability may have occurred a very long time ago and may be considerably outdated in terms of current practices. Considerable orientation and training will be required to develop the knowledge or ability to an acceptable level for adequate job performance.
- MODERATE (2)
- Knowledge or ability is possessed to a moderate extent and is generally applicable to the job situation. Knowledge or ability possessed is related somewhat to that required on the job but is lacking in scope and/or depth to limit its application to the more common work situations of average complexity. The knowledge or ability may have been acquired and applied a relatively long time ago or may have been exercised recently but on a limited basis. Orientation and instruction on the job will definitely be required to upgrade the knowledge and ability to a level where it can be applied fully to meet the job requirements.
- GREAT (3)
- Knowledge or ability is possessed to a great degree and is closely related to that required on the job. The breadth and depth of knowledge or ability possessed is substantial and is applicable in meeting most of the job requirements, including some of the more difficult expectations. The acquisition or application of knowledge or ability may be relatively recent and is fairly consistent with current practices. A brief orientation and short period of adjustment will be required to fully apply the knowledge or ability to the work situation.
- MAXIMUM (4)
- Knowledge or ability is possessed to the maximum extent necessary for immediate application on the job. Knowledge or ability possessed is directly related to that required on the job and is of sufficient scope and depth to be applicable to the full range of job requirements, including the most difficult or complex situations. Knowledge or ability was acquired, exercised or applied very recently and is consistent with current practices in the occupation or profession. Knowledge or ability is possessed to the degree that little or no orientation will be required for full application upon entry to the job.
